    chap41(7) Long Live the King　少年王の即位

    （王の葬儀。仮面を取り、そして戻すシビラ）

    （新王ボードワンⅤ世の戴冠式）

    大司教：
    Behold your rightful king and heir
    to the throne of the kingdom of Jerusalem.
    ［これぞ エルサレム王国を継ぐ 血筋正しき王なり！］

    参列者たち：
    Yes！ Yes！ Yes！

    大司教：Long live the king in prosperity.
    【王に末長い繁栄を！】

    群集：（唱和）
    Long live the king.
    【我らが王に栄光を！】（繰り返し）

    chap42(8) The Reckoning　精算

    （砂漠に独りたたずむバリアン。ホスピタラー現われる。幻想？）

    Hospitaler：
    One may stare into the light until one becomes the light.
    ［光を見つめ続けていると 自分が光になることがある］
    I've done it many times.
    ［何度も経験したことです］

    （バリアン、灌木にギリシャ火？を投げつけて発火させる）

    Balian：
    There's your religion.
    ［宗教はこれだ］
    One spark, a creosote bush.
    ［火花ひとつで燃え上がる柴（しば）］
    There's your Moses, I did not hear it speak.
    ［モーゼは燃える柴の声を聞いた　私と違って］

    Hospitaler：
    That does not mean that there is no God.
    ［だからといって 神がいないことにはならない］

    Do you love her？
    ［彼女を愛している？］

    Balian：
    Yes.
    ［そうだ］

    Hospitaler：
    The heart will mend.
    ［胸の痛みは やがて消える］
    Your duty is to the people of the city.
    ［あなたの務めは 都（みやこ）の民を守ること］
    I go to pray.
    ［私は祈りに行きます］

    Balian：
    For what？
    ［何を祈る？］

    Hospitaler：
    For the strength to endure what is to come.
    ［まもなく来るものに 耐える力を］

    Balian：
    And what is to come？
    ［何が来るというのだ？］

    Hospitaler：
    The reckoning is to come.
    ［つけを精算する時が です］
    for what was done 100 years before.
    ［100年前の行為のつけを］
    The Muslims will never forget.
    ［イスラム教徒は決して忘れはしないし］

    Nor should they.
    ［忘れるべきことでもない］

    ひとこと：
    ここのホスピタラーは、啓示を与える天使なのだろうか…抽象的すぎてよくわからない。
    モーゼの「燃える柴」がbushだったとは今まで気づかなかった。クレオソート・ブッシュとはいかにも発火性高そうな名前の植物だが、私が最初に知ったのは『デューン　砂の惑星』でだった。救世主はやはり砂漠のもの。高温多湿の国には出現しない。

    chap43(9) A Mother's Pain 母の苦悩

    （国王として署名をしているⅤ世。シビラと大司教がそばにいる。）

    Patriarch：
    My lady, your letter to Saladin.
    ［失礼ながら サラディン宛のこの手紙］

    Peace to be sustained, borders respected, trade allowed to continue.
    ［“平和を維持し、国境を侵犯せず、交易は従来どおりに”ですと？］
    Is this wise to show your intentions？
    ［こうもはっきり言うのは得策でない］
    Better, surely, to let him wonder.
    ［意図を悟らせず 迷いを与えたほうが］

    Sibylla：
    We keep my brother's peace.
    ［兄の築いた和平を堅持します］

    (to her son) Sign it.
    （息子に）［署名なさい］
    Take the seal. Be careful. Be careful.
    ［印璽を　熱いから気をつけて］

    （溶けたロウの滴が手に落ちるが気づかないⅤ世。動揺を隠すシビラ）

    Put it back, my darling.
    ［いいわ　そこに置いて］

    （別室。イスラム医師団、Ⅴ世の気をそらしつつ診察、痛覚麻痺を確認。
    　必死に絶望の表情を抑えるシビラ）

    Tiberias：
    There is a rumor.
    ［噂が立ち始めました］
    We must condemn it immediately.
    ［すぐに抑え込まなくては］

    Sibylla：
    Call it treason, and kill those who whisper it.
    ［そんな噂を口にする者は 死刑にしてやるわ］

    Tiberias：
    The rumor will die if we show the boy as active.
    ［元気なお姿を見せさえすれば 噂も消えます］

    Sibylla：（悲痛な叫びを上げる）
    How long before he wears a mask？
    ［どうせ仮面をつけることになるのに？］
    Will you have one made for him？
    ［あなたが注文して作らせる？］
    How did my boy deserve it？
    ［なぜ　あの子がこんな目に合うの］

    （ティベリアス言葉を失いかぶりを振る）

    Jerusalem is dead, Tiberias.
    ［エルサレム王国は終りよ］
    No kingdom is worth my son alive in hell.
    ［息子を生き地獄に落としはしない］
    I will go to hell instead.
    ［代わりに私が地獄に行くわ］

    （中庭の四阿（あずまや）、母と息子）

    Sibylla：
    Do you remember the story of Llewellyn？
    ［ルウェリンのお話を覚えてる？］

    Son：
    No.
    ［ううん］

    （時間経過？）
    Sibylla：
    Well, do you remember why？
    ［どうしてそうなったのかしら？］

    Son：
    No.
    ［わからない］

    Sibylla：
    He was so lonely...and he called all the gods.
    ［彼はひとりぼっちで…そして神々に祈りました］

    Son：
    Why？
    ［なぜ？］

    Sibylla：
    Because he was desperate. It was a proof of love.
    ［他に道はなかったのです　愛を証しするには］


    （フランス語の子守唄を歌うシビラ。腕に眠るわが子。…）

    （雨に打たれる石畳に、置き忘れられた精巧な玩具の騎士）

    （バリアン襲撃シーン、台詞に変更なし）

    （牢獄のルノーを訪れるギー）
    Guy：(to the jailer)
    Leave us.
    【外せ】

    Reynald　：
    The boy is in Heaven?
    ［あの子供は天国へ？］

    Guy：
    Yes.
    【ああ】

    Reynald　：
    His mother has more backbone than I do.
    ［母なればこそだな　俺にはできん］

    Guy：
    She's in the crypt and will not come out.
    ［霊廟にこもりきり 遺体から離れない］


    Reynald　：
    Have the Templars killed Balian?
    ［配下の騎士は バリアンを？］

    Guy：
    Yes.
    ［始末した］

    Reynald, give me a war.
    【ルノー】　［戦（いくさ）を起こせ］

    Reynald　：

    （戴冠式、劇場版からの変更なし。ギーが王となる）

    （砂漠に倒れているバリアン。ホスピタラー現れ、こめかみに触れて去る）

    chap46(12) Beloved Sister　サラディンの妹

    （サラセン人の村落をルノーとその配下の兵が襲撃。台詞変更なし）

    （王宮中庭でギー王がイスラム使者を謁見、殺害。台詞変更なし）

    chap47(13) He Is Waiting　エルサレム軍集結

    （ギーによる全軍召集、バリアンの反対、ティベリアス離脱。変更は次のみ）
    Tiberias：
    The boy's dead.
    ［少年王は死去した］

    Balian：
    Guy？
    ［まさかギーが］

    Tiberias：
    No. The boy was leprous like his uncle.
    ［違う　先王と同じ病だったのだ］
    She gave him peace.　
    ［母君の手で 安らかに…］
    She let him go...    and Jerusalem along with him.
    ［彼女にはもはや エルサレムも王もない］

    （ホスピタラーとの永訣。台詞変更なし）

    （エルサレム王宮内霊廟。フランス語で小さく歌うシビラ。訪れたバリアンとの会話に、言葉の変更はなし）

    やはり、このシーンのシビラは、わが子の棺のかたわらにいたんですね。そして
    “Save the people from what I've done.”とはやはり子殺しのことだったのでした。
    劇場版を見て、このときの彼女の顔は紛れもなく子を喪った母のそれだと私は確信していましたが、…裏付けられてみると辛いです。

    本編のchap41(7) Long Live the King　少年王の即位　からカットされたシーンが
    Disc４のPost-Production Deleted & Extended Scenes に入っています。
    戴冠式で、シビラの息子のボードワンⅤ世が、即位の言葉を述べるところ


    I swear to be faithful defender of the Church
    and abide by the ages of(?) customs of kings of Jerusalem
    and King Baldwin, my predecessor of blessed memory.

    余はここに誓う、教会の信仰篤き守護者となることを。
    代々のエルサレム王の伝統に従い、また
    先代ボードワン王の遺徳を守ることを。



    幼さの残る声で、一生懸命に教えられた言葉を暗誦する少年王…これ本編に入れてほしかったです！（ToT）
