It sounds very clearly to me that he is saying "wander the paths of Mirkwood". This was briefly discussed on Tolkien Online when the FOTR DVD (TE) came out. As I recall, it was virtually unanimous that it was "wander the paths".

"Wonder" here wouldn't mean 「〜かしら?」, it would mean something closer to 感嘆する. If Bilbo had said it. Which I'm pretty sure he didn't. :-)
